What exactly is “street-legal”?
By state law, any non-highway vehicle that is authorized by a local government may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less, and only if the driver has a valid driver’s license.
Additionally, street-ready golf carts must have the following:
- brakes
- steering
- rear-view mirror
- headlights
- taillights
- brake lights
- turn signals
- reflectors (front and back)
- “slow-moving vehicle” signage (in rear)
Additional requirements may exist depending on the community in which a cart will be registered.
